Kincardine, Ontario: Where The Penetangore River Meets Lake Huron

Kincardine, Ontario is located on the shores of Lake Huron between Goderich and Port Elgin. The Harbour is created by the waters of the Penetangore River. The name of that river is indigenous for “river with sand on one side”.The town of Kincardine dates back to 1848 and was incorporated as a village in 1858. Currently, over 13,000 residents live in the greater area with around 7,000 in the town proper.

Directly to the south of the Penetangore River mouth is Station Beach, a popular summer destination. Shown in the video is the historic Kincardine Lighthouse. The lighthouse that stands at 19 metres or 62 feet in height dates back to 1881 and now houses a museum. It is now operated by the adjacent Kincardine Yacht Club, also seen in the video.

The town is located 221 kilometres northwest of Toronto and 85 KM southwest of Owen Sound. By boat, Port Hope, Michigan is just 100 KM to the west. The waters of Lake Huron are refreshing at Station Beach with temperatures hovering just around 20 degrees celcius during the summer months. In the late autumn, this is a popular spot for surfers.
