Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport: Home To Porter Airlines

Porter Airlines was founded in 2006 and is headquartered at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), aka Toronto Island Airport. This was the airline’s main Toronto hub but since 2022, Porter flies extensively in and out of Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), as well.

The growing fleet currently (as of July 15, 2025) consists of 75 aircraft. Porter flies just two types of airplanes, the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 an the Embraer 195-E2. The airline flies to destinations across Canada, as well as locations in the United States. Starting in December, 2025, Porter will fly to sunshine destinations like the Bahamas, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Cayman Islands.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was opened in 1939 as the Port George VI Island Airport. Despite being limited to turboprop airplanes, YTZ is still the ninth busiest airport in Canada, receiving over 2 million passengers annually.
